Brotherhood of the Holy Shroud / Navarro, Julia

Just read The Brotherhood of the Holy Shroud, by Julia Navarro. One might call it a thriller in the mode of (a less salacious) the Da Vinci Code, focused on the Shroud of Turin. The story combines the 'historical' (fictionalized history) burial shroud of Jesus and its passage through the years with its relationship to the present-day Shroud of Turin. Secret societies, the Knights Templar, and some determined cops struggle to both understand and possess the shroud and its mysteries!

Polished this 399 pager off in about three days, so it was certainly gripping. I enjoyed the secret society aspects (Templars, etc.) but the historical flashbacks to the 'actual' happenings of the Shroud were my favorite aspect. Could easily be made into a movie, with the predictably unresolved ending, ala Indiana Jones, with its own version of the ark getting packed away where the world forgets -- doesn't find out! -- that it even exists...

Good morning! I'm Myron A. Mykyta, man of many interests, talents, and media formats... In previous (and ongoing) lives, I've been a father, husband, athlete, Little League umpire, raver (with asperations of deejaying!), student, and even farmer! So I've been there and done that for quite a variety of lifestyles and interests.

I'm going to give a shot at a daily recap of my books, music, and other media interests. I listen to a wide-range of music, from minimal techno (think Richie Hawtin and Matthew Dear) to Wilco to KT Tunstall to Vivaldi's Four Seasons. And I read a lot too, fiction and non-fiction. Most recent books include a Da Vinci code-type thriller, a history of trees, the Little Prince, and a Star Wars paperbook.
